Tove Styrke - Borderline [NEW EP + VIDEO]

La charmante Tove Östman Styrke nous revient avec un nouveau clip tout frais! La jeune suédoise qui avait été repérée dans Sweden Idol en 2009 (dans lequel elle s'était hissée à la troisième place du podium) nous présente la vidéo de Borderline premier single de l'EP éponyme qui sortira le 23 novembre prochain.

Si jusque là son succès est resté relativement confidentiel (malgré de belles choses!) gageons que sa pop qui tire indifféremment vers la dance ou l'electro pop et n'hésite pas à se draper de rythmiques reggae va attirer les projecteurs avec cette nouvelle galette et la maturité qu'elle a acquise.

Pour borderline, soyons sûrs que la comparaison avec Selah Sue ne manquera pas de surgir ça et là. Quoi qu'il en soit, par ici on aime particulièrement! En bonus on se regarde High and Low (2011) sont plus gros carton jusque là. Et pour finir, p'tit coup d'oeil dans le rétro avec l'un de ses passages dans l'Idol suédois et sa reprise du In the gettho de Dolly Parton.

Pour aujourd'hui c'est sur l'une de nos séries US coup de coeur de l'été que l'on tourne le projetceur. You're The Worst, une comédie romantique qui s'écarte un peu des productions très lisses que l'on trouve en général aux Etats-Unis. On y suit la rencontre et la relation de Gretchen (Aya Cash) et Jimmy (Chris Geere), les personnages principaux alcooliques, pas réfractaires aux substances illicites, avec une conception du couple bien à eux... et bien loin du stéréotype de Ken et Barbie. Deux personnages grinçants qui font du show l'un des beaux lancements de cette année.

Bon ça c'était niveau série, pour ce qui est de la musique, on si'ntéresse au générique et à son interprète  Slothurst (qui est pour le coup est aussi une belle découverte). Slothrust, est un groupe originaire de Boston et signé chez les new-yorkais de Ba Da Bing. Emmené par la voix profonde et protéiforme (et que l'on aime particulièrement) de sa chanteuse Leah Wellbaum, le trio nous livre un punk rock, avec un côté grunge qui n'est pas sans rappeler les années 90, le tout se permettant des écarts vers des accords plus blues. Un beau mélange me diras-tu! Bon, on te laisse te faire ton idée avec 7:30 am donc, et en bonus une reprise du classique des Turtles, Happy Together. Et, pour finir, notre coup de coeur du groupe Crockpot.

Lilly allen - Sheezus

Ca faisait quelques semaines que Lilly Allen nous mettait l'eau à la bouche avec Sheezus, tiré de l'album éponyme qui sortira le 5 mai prochain. Elle confiait en effet que le titre était son préféré de l'album et qu'elle espérait en faire le premier single. Malheureusement c'était sans compter les "bien-pensants"...

En effet, outre le côté down-tempo (qui n'est pas sans rappeler le style de MIA et qui participe bien à donner son identité au morceau et à appuyer l'ironie des paroles) la maison de disque a du écouter certaines des critiques que l'on a pu lire ici et là en Angleterre et aux Etats-Unis. La chanteuse s'arrêtait d'ailleurs sur la question lors d'une interview accordée à Rolling Stones.

Handcrafted Soul - Frozen [LES FRENCHIES du jour]

Si devait faire dans le pompeux et classifier la musique des Handcrafted Soul, on parlerait certainement d'un groupe de folk rock dont la modernité est principalement inscrite sur un solide et charmant socle rétro. Voilà voilà... Mais bon tu sais qu'ici on est un peu plus directs et moins empreints de la recherche systématique des beaux mots propre à nos amis journalistes.

Donc, Handcrafted Soul c'est avant tout duo français à découvrir d'urgence, si ce n'est déjà le cas au travers des nombreuses scènes qu'ils n'ont eu de cesse d'écumer ces douze derniers mois. Ce genre groupes dont la musique vous touche par sa sincérité. Des multi-instrumentistes qui gèrent l'ensemble de la chaîne, de la composition à l'interprétation en passant par la réalisation des clips. Une démarche qui confère à leurs productions une touche à la fois artisanale et créative qui ne saura que te plaire.

En ce qui concerne Frozen, l'écriture est au rendez-vous, l'instru est parfait, la voix te transporte et le tout est même sublimé par un petit bijou de clip dont l'image ne sera pas sans rappeler un Sin City qui aurait mué en histoire d'amour. De la belle ouvrage. On aime. Beaucoup.

Frank Ocean - Bad Religion [Channel Orange]

Pour annoncer la sortie prématurée de son très attendu album, Channel Orange (dispo sur son tumblr), Frank Ocean était de passage hier chez Jimmy Fallon.

Entre son statut de future icône RnB, ses sorties remarquées avec Tyler The Creator et les autres membres de OFWGKTA (Odd Future) et le buzz qui a entouré son coming out en ce début d'été, on en fini plus d'entendre parler de lui. Et il faut dire que c'est bien mérité... que ce soit pour ses textes, son univers ou son timbre de voix, l'artiste du haut de ses 24 ans s'écarte clairement, et pour notre plus grand plaisir, de la vague très aseptisée qui emporte le Rnb.

Entouré des Roots (et d'une section de violons) il nous a interprété Bad Religion (voir les paroles plus bas...) et semble avoir conquis le public présent et nous par la même occasion.

Norah Jones - Happy Pills [COUP DE COEUR du jour]

On s'approche tout doucement de la sortie de Litlle Broken Heart, nouvel album de (la toujours très sensuelle) Norah Jones. Ce premier vrai LP solo depuis The Fall en 2009 sortira en effet le 30 avril. Pour nous donner un avant-goût et après la sortie du single il y a quelques jours elle nous dévoile aujourd'hui le clip de Happy Pills.

A noter: l'album est produit par Danger Mouse pour qui elle a participé à l'excellent projet Rome en 2011, dont je ne peux que te recommander très vivement l'écoute, à commencer par le morceau Two Against One (sur lequel la voix de Jack White vient sublimer la prod de Burton et Luppi).
